The Jamaican sprint queen featured in her first race in six months and her performance must have left rivals with a lot to ponder.
World 200m champion Shericka Jackson made her long awaited return to track but it did not go so well although there were encouraging signs.
Jackson featured in the 60m dash at the Queen’s Grace Jackson Invitational Meet at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica on Saturday.
The Jamaican sprinter got off the blocks slow and had to do a lot to close in on her competitors but fell short of victory by fine margins, finishing in second position after clocking 7.18 seconds, behind winner Jodean Williams, who timed 7.15 seconds.
Jackson was forced to miss the 2024 Olympic games following injury, but she is gearing up for her 2025 season opener.
It was the first race for Jackson in six months since she pulled out of the Paris 2024 Olympics with an injury but she did not look rusty as she could have won were it not for her poor start.
The way she recovered to close in was a great sign but also an indication that more still needs to be done as she builds towards the campaign with top rivals lying in wait.
Jackson will be up against the likes of Olympics champion Gabby Thomas as well as her American compatriots Sha’Carri Richardson, Brittany Brown and McKenzie Long while Julien Alfred from St Lucia, fellow Jamaican Elaine Thompson-Herah, as well as Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith and Dryll Neita will also have a say.
