Narok – The Jubilee Party has announced that former Minister of Internal Security Fred Matiang'i will be the candidate for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
Can Fred Matiang'i defeat Ruto in 2027?
Speaking on Saturday, January 25 in Narok County, Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni expressed confidence that Matiang'i will defeat the President William Ruto 2027.
Former party led by the president Uhuru Kenyatta urged his supporters to spread Matiang'i's aspirations throughout the country, adding that with a united opposition, Ruto has little chance of being re-elected.
“We like Jubilee Party we have our candidate Fred Matiang'i. He will compete with others to ensure that Ruto returns home. If we all agree to come together to vote, Ruto will not win even if he appoints Kimani Ichung'wah or Kamket as IEBC Chairman. We must agree that all his supporters are not good for this country,” Kioni said.
Kioni has also called on Kenyans to embrace the minority communities, asking officials of the Mt Kenya region to separate themselves and leave other communities in power.
“We want a President from a small community. Let's step aside and leave it to someone else. Let's unite and vote as one,” he said.
Who will collaborate with Matiang'i 2027?
In related news, Kisii senator Richard Onyonka said Gusii region is determined to present the former Internal Security Cabinet as their presidential candidate in the 2027 election.
Speaking in his constituency on Friday, January 24, the senator argued that his area had been marginalized for a while under successive governments and that it was their turn to try one of them for the top seat.
While the senator believes that Matiang'i has a bigger chance in the election, he said they will seek support from other influential leaders.
He said they will seek cooperation with the traditional kings of the area, such as the former vice president Rigathi Gachagua and former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
2027 presidential vote
Meanwhile, the 2027 race to the White House is proving to be interesting as groups and figures are emerging with efforts to remove ordinary politicians from the equation of power.
For decades, elections have centered on post-independence figures such as Raila, William Ruto, Kalonzo, Musalia Mudavadi and Uhuru, among others.
With the 2024 Gen Z riots, it is likely that normalcy may fail as young people vow to mobilize their numbers to change the political landscape.
Apart from Matiang'i, others who have come forward to contest the race include activists Okiya Omtatah and Morara Kebaso.
Aware of the coming changes, the current president seems to want cooperation with his former political rival, Raila, to secure his second and final term.
