Kericho – An autopsy on Richard Otieno, a Molo activist known as the 'Molo President,' has revealed that he died of severe head injuries caused by a sharp object.
State Pathologist Johansen Oduor presided over the two-hour operation at the Kericho County Hospital mortuary, giving a chilling account of the attack.
According to Oduor, the injuries were accompanied by several blows from a sharp object, possibly a sword or an axe.
“There were multiple slash wounds to the back of the head, which resulted in a fractured skull and massive bleeding on the brain. There was also a cut to the front, although this did not fracture the skull,” said Oduor. .
Additional bruises on Otieno's face and arms indicated defensive efforts during the brutal attack.
“There were also bruises on the face. What we also found were more bruises on the arms, which looked like someone was trying to defend themselves,” he added.
How will the samples help to find those who killed Otieno
Body samples, including fingernails, were collected for further DNA analysis, while a toxicology test was ordered to determine whether Otieno was incapacitated before the fatal incident.
“When people are involved in violent confrontations, there is an exchange of DNA material, which is important in identifying criminals,” said Oduor.
Titus Ngulugu, who represented the family and the Independent Legal Unit (IMLU), confirmed the findings and praised their accuracy.
Speaking on behalf of the family, lawyer Rosalinda Wamaitha expressed satisfaction with the action taken by the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI).
“We are hopeful that justice will be served, given the positive steps taken so far,” he said.
