From KCB’s clinical efficiency in taming a spirited Blak Blad, to Mwamba’s resurgence in emphatic fashion against South Coast Pirates, and Oilers’ high-octane assault that overwhelmed Kenya Harlequins, here is a round up of all results from matchday six of the 2024/2025 Kenya Cup season.

KCB 33-22  Blak Blad

KCB Rugby kept their perfect Kenya Cup start intact with a hard-fought 33-22 victory over Blak Blad at the Blad Bin. The Bankers showcased early dominance, racing to a 21-0 lead in the first half.

Jacob Ojee opened the scoring after relentless pressure, with Elvis Namusasi adding the conversion. Moments later, Elvis Olukusi exploited space to score twice, extending KCB’s lead to 21-0. Blak Blad struck back late in the first half, with Steve Biko pouncing on a loose ball to score, though Kelvin Gathu missed the conversion, leaving the score at 21-5 at halftime.

Blak Blad brought intensity in the second half, with Gathu and Archadius Khwesa scoring tries to narrow the gap to 21-15. However, KCB’s Austin Sikutwa turned the tide with two quickfire tries, sealing the result despite a late consolation try from Blak Blad.

Mokoro is the fourth Kenyan to have dumped Kenya Cup rugby to pursue greener pastures in Romania, and all it took was one game for Quins against Mwamba in late 2023 for the opportunity to pop up.

Mwamba 38-8 South Coast Pirates

Mwamba RFC broke a five-match winless run with an emphatic 38-8 victory over South Coast Pirates at the Nairobi Racecourse.

Joseph Odoyo kicked things off for Mwamba with a try, converted by Eugene Ojiambo for a 7-0 lead. Pirates reduced the deficit through an Anthony Abonyo penalty but Mwamba quickly took control. Tries from Joel Inzuga, Roxy Suchi, and Steve Sikuta, all converted by Ojiambo, gave Mwamba a commanding 28-3 halftime lead.

In the second half, Brighton Omondi scored Pirates’ lone try, but Mwamba finished strong with Ishmael Mokaya and Charles Kuka adding a try and penalty, respectively, to cap a dominant performance and leapfrog the Pirates in the standings.
