Kenyans Are Amazed By The Veterinarian Who Spawned A Cow Through Surgery

  • Kenyans are surprised by the birth of two cows in the division by Narok veterinarian, Leonard Kibet
  • Kibet posted on social media that the cow had a previously narrow reproductive tract due to a pelvic problem, and this was the second part for one pair of cows and calves.
  • This is happening while President William Ruto's livestock vaccination program is expected to start next week, now voluntarily

Leonard Kibet, a popular veterinary doctor based in Narok, has shown amazing veterinary skills after he helped a cow to give birth by caesarean section.

Kibet shared the amazing exercise on his X page, winning the hearts of Kenyans who filled the comments with praise.

Why did Kibet produce a cow through surgery?

The procedure was necessary following the continued decline of the animal's reproductive tract.

According to Kibet, the cow had dystocia, or difficulty giving birth, which posed a serious risk to the cow and her calf.

The cow had a history of pelvic problems, after undergoing the first surgery more than a year and a half ago.

“The reproductive tract was still narrow and we had to do another CS (surgery) on this cow again a year and six months later. luckthe calf was still alive after hours of dystocia,” Kibet wrote.

Kibet explained that the cow cannot give birth through CS for the third time.

“We may have to kill the animal or if the client refuses we will not impregnate him again,” Kibet explained.

The veterinarian was awarded the veterinarian of the year 2024, by the Kenya Veterinary Association. He has been very vocal online, pushing the campaign against the illegal slaughter and sale of donkey meat.

Kibet has also been a strong advocate of dog vaccination to eliminate rabies in the case of dog bites.

The plan of William Ruto of cattle vaccination to start next week

In a related development, the Kenyan government's national livestock vaccination program is set to begin next week.

The initiative targets 22 million cattle and 50 million goats and sheep to protect them from dangerous diseases such as foot and mouth disease (FMD) and pest ruminants (PPR).

This is happening while measures to quarantine cattle are being implemented in four counties where FMD is currently spreading. Kakamega, West Pokot, and Trans Nzoia are under full quarantine, while Nandi is under temporary quarantine pending further confirmation of FMD cases.

The campaign, originally announced by President William Ruto in November 2024, aims to improve the quality of the livestock sector in Kenya, in order to maintain its eligibility for international trade.

After receiving strong opposition, the president clarified that the vaccine will be voluntary, and no farmer will be forced against their wishes.
