Sofapaka coach Ezekiel Akwana fumes at referee after controversy-ridden loss to Gor Mahia

The Sofapaka coach has questioned some of the decisions from the match official during his team’s defeat to the FKF premier League champions in Machakos.

Sofapaka coach Ezekiel Akwana has blamed what he terms poor officiating for his team’s 2-0 loss to Gor Mahia on Wednesday.

Sofapaka put on a gallant display but still went down thanks to an early goal from Geoffrey ‘Simiti’ Ochieng and Shariff Musa’s second half strike at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

However, Akwana feels his team could have got something from the game and is instead pointing a finger of blame at the referee.

K’Ogalo made a return to winning ways following a 2-0 victory against Sofapaka in Machakos on Wednesday.

“We played well but the referee had a fixed mind. It’s like he wanted us to lose this match. He gave Gor Mahia so many fouls,” Akwana told Azam TV.

“If you look at the second Gor Mahia goal, it should not have stood. The first goal was our mistake but the officiating let us down because we played well.”

Sofapaka goalkeeper Evans Ouma was at fault for the first goal when he came out and failed to claim the ball following a freekick that allowed Ochieng to head home.

Batoto Ba Mungu had a number of chances to score after that but wasted before Musa netted the second with some slice of fortune.

The winger’s shot hit the crossbar and bounced off, leading to protests from Sofapaka after the referee had given the goal in what was a bold call from the match official.
