Kenya Police coach Etienne Ndayiragije has remained evasive over the futures of experienced duo Musa Mohammed and Patrick Matasi amid reports they are set to depart this month.
Kenya Police FC head coach Etienne Ndayiragije has chosen to remain tight-lipped about the future of seasoned players Musa Mohamed and Patrick Matasi after both were omitted from the squad in their dominant 3-0 victory over Bandari at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, on Wednesday.
Matasi has yet to feature for the club in 2025, with Job Ochieng preferred as the starting goalkeeper in the last three matches. Similarly, Musa Mohamed has seen minimal game time this season, with Ndayiragije opting for the defensive pairing of Brian Okoth and David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng.
Reports indicate that Matasi, who joined Kenya Police in March 2023 from Tusker FC, is likely to leave the club when the transfer window opens on January 29.
Former Harambee Stars coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee has made a rallying call to CAF concerning the biennial CHAN tournament with regard to local-based African coaches.
The goalkeeper initially made a significant impact at the club, becoming a key player in his debut season as Kenya Police battled fiercely with Gor Mahia and Tusker for the FKF Premier League title. Although they eventually finished third with 63 points, Matasi’s performances stood out.
Matasi’s heroics extended into the FKF Cup last season, where he saved two penalties to secure an 8-7 shootout victory in the final against Kakamega Homeboyz after a goalless draw in regulation and extra time. However, glaring errors late last season and at the start of the current campaign have seen him fall out of favor, with Job Ochieng taking over the number-one spot.
When asked about the omission of the experienced duo, Ndayiragije dismissed the speculation, attributing the decision to squad size limitations and emphasizing the importance of the collective team effort.

Harambee Stars assistant coach believes Harambee Stars’ goalscoring issue is about a lack of enough quality strikers, but Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee disagrees, labling it a ‘lame excuse’.
“The match sheet can only hold a maximum of 20 players. If I had added the two, I would have gotten suspended,” Ndayiragije explained.
He added: “The rules state we can only select 20 players on a matchday. They are not the only ones left out; there are others as well. I don’t understand why you’re asking about them in particular. This is a team sport.
Reports indicate Matasi is set to leave the club when the transfer window opens on January 29. However, the former Tanzania and Burundi coach was dismissive when asked point blank if the duo were still a part of his plans.
“Who told you I don’t need them? They are still contracted to Kenya Police. We’ve been winning games both with them and without them. Why wasn’t I questioned about their unavailability previously? We got the three points, and the players I selected delivered.”

Gameweek 15 of the 2024/2025 FKF Premier League was unforgettable for many reasons. Here are five things we learnt about Kenya’s top flight league action last weekend.
On the players’ futures, Ndayiragije remained noncommittal, saying, “We haven’t had talks about it. I’ve noted it down in my diary. I will sit with the board to discuss what we need to improve upon, and then we’ll know.”
As the January transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on Kenya Police to see whether Matasi and Mohamed will continue their stints with the club or seek opportunities elsewhere.
