AFC Leopards’ U45 Unit branch is spearheading a transformative 2025 agenda focused on fan engagement, and youth development, among other things.
The AFC Leopards U45 Unit branch is stepping into 2025 with a transformative agenda that prioritises fan engagement, youth development, and nationwide partnerships.
The branch has been a pillar of support for Kenya’s beloved club and is not only focusing on football but also reimagining its role in fostering community, empowerment, and national pride in this new season.
Branch chairman Olympia Musonye revealed that the main focus will be on creating a lasting impact both on and off the pitch.
Kelly Madada’s brace helped AFC Leopards clinch a vital 4-2 victory over KCB in Murang’a Seal on Wednesday.
“This year, our goal is to elevate AFC Leopards as a brand that resonates with fans across Kenya, bringing them closer to the action while making a meaningful difference in their lives,” Musonye said.
A Gala Beyond Football: Connecting with Fans in Western Kenya
One of the year’s highlights will be the second annual Gala Award Ceremony, slated for June 2025. This year’s gala will move to Western Kenya, specifically Kakamega unlike last year’s event that was held in Nairobi.
This decision reflects the unit’s dedication to bridging the geographical divide and connecting with fans in the club’s heartland.
“Hosting the gala in Western Kenya allows fans who rarely get to interact with the team to feel included and appreciated. It’s not just about awards, it’s about building a sense of unity,” Musonye explained.
Empowering the Next Generation: Focus on Youth Team Development
Another cornerstone of the 2025 agenda will be supporting the AFC Leopards Youth Team. The youth squad has faced significant challenges, including walkovers due to inadequate preparations.
The U45 Unit branch is committed to reversing this trend by providing resources, logistical support, and mentorship to ensure that young players are well-prepared to compete.
“We believe that the future of AFC Leopards lies in nurturing young talent. Our role is to ensure these players have everything they need to succeed,” Musonye stated.
Strengthening the Club through strategic partnerships
The branch is keen on fostering new collaborations with corporates and international investors to bring in much-needed resources to fuel the club’s growth and stability.
“We’ve had promising discussions with major players who see the potential of AFC Leopards. Their involvement will not only elevate the club but also strengthen our ability to give back to the community,” Musonye said.
Fan-Centric Initiatives: Election year and beyond
The U45 Unit branch is championing inclusivity by advocating for broader fan participation in the voting process since this is an election year.
Ensuring that fans have a voice in leadership decisions is seen as a key step toward building trust and engagement.
Additionally, fan welfare is taking center stage, with plans to enhance the overall supporter experience. This includes improved matchday services, outreach programs, and events designed to bring the AFC Leopards community closer together.
Corporate Social Responsibility: Making an impact nationwide
The U45 Unit’s CSR activities will remain a critical focus in 2025. By extending their reach to communities across Kenya, the branch aims to solidify its reputation as more than just a football entity.
Past initiatives have included education drives, health awareness campaigns, and environmental programs, and the unit plans to expand these efforts in the coming year.
Amplifying the AFC Leopards brand
The U45 Unit is committed to growing the AFC Leopards brand on a national and international scale by leveraging media, partnerships, and grassroots campaigns.
Musonye expressed optimism about the year ahead: “2025 is not just about matches or trophies. It’s about building a legacy that will make every AFC Leopards fan proud. From Kakamega to Nairobi, from our youth team to our seasoned players, we are all part of something bigger than ourselves.”
AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani has expressed his disappointment at the off-field issues that affected his team’s preparations ahead of Saturday’s costly loss to FC Talanta.
As the AFC Leopards U45 Unit branch gears up for what promises to be a defining year, its focus on unity, youth, and community stands out as a model for how sports organizations can inspire and lead beyond the pitch.
