Siaya – About three people have lost their lives in an accident that occurred near the Wii-Omino area along the Ndori-Luanda Kotieno Road in Rarieda sub-county.
How Many People Died in the Nyaugenia Bus Accident?
The accident involved Nyaugenya bus and three Nissan type, both traveling towards Luanda Kotieno from Ndori.
According to Victor Otunge, the deputy chief of Naya who arrived at the scene of the accident shortly after the incident, both cars were speeding when the tricycle tried to overtake the bus.
“Matatu tried to overtake the speeding bus, but when it tried to return to its path, it collided with the bus,” Otunge told TUKO.co.ke.
The local chief said the impact of the collision was great, causing the two vehicles to leave the road.
“The three-wheeler left the road, hit a passerby, and hit a fence before entering a neighbor's house,” Otunge added.
Three people inside the matatu were confirmed to have died on the spot, while the other passengers suffered injuries of varying degrees.
Emergency rescuers and local government officials quickly arrived at the accident site, strengthened security and transported the injured to the nearest hospital.
However, the loss of life has left the community in shock, while the families of the deceased mourn their loved ones.
Otunge emphasized that both vehicles were traveling at high speed and added that investigations are ongoing to determine if there were other factors that contributed to the fatal accident.
“We appeal to all road users to be careful and follow the rules of the road to avoid such tragedies,” the area manager encouraged.
