Harambee Stars full-back Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma has been the subject of a bumper offer from a European team but his Polish club has turned it down, demanding a higher fee.
Harambee Stars defender Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma has attracted the interest of Kazakhstan giants FK Astana who have submitted a bid to his current club Rakow Czestochowa in an effort to sign him this month.
Marcelo, as he is popularly known in Kenya, has impressed scouts from Astana who feel a deal can materialise this month although they face a big battle to lure him from his current club who are demanding a higher fee.
As per Transferfeed, Astana have submitted a €1.7 million (Ksh227 million) bid to Rakow Czestochowa for Ouma to sign him in the January transfer window but the Polish club have turned it down and are asking for €2.5 million (Ksh334 million) instead for the Kenyan international.

Michael Olunga has risen from humble beginnings to become Kenya’s highest-earning footballer, securing lucrative contracts across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
It is still not known if Astana will return with an improved offer but the interest has thrust Ouma into the spotlight, further enhancing his standing.
The left-back joined Rakow Czestochowa from Swedish club AIK before the start of the 2023-24 season for a reported €700,000 (Ksh94 million) and after an impressive one-and-a-half years, the Polish club views him as a key asset that they cannot lose cheaply.
Ouma has made 18 appearances in all competitions for Rakow Czestochowa this season, scoring one goal, and providing three assists, while he featured 12 times for the club in 2023-24 when he also had to battle some injuries.
Kenyan midfielder is rumoured to be on the verge of a record-breaking move to a top European club in a multimillion deal.
The former Gor Mahia star is among the 10 most valuable Kenyan players currently with a market value of €850,000 (Ksh133 million) as per Transfermarkt.
It is not hard to understand why Rakow Czestochowa are keen to hold onto the player as they are currently in the title race, sitting second in the Polish top flight on 36 points, just two behind leaders Lech Poznan.
Meanwhile, Astana, seven-time champions in Kazakhstan, are also second in the Kazakh league, two points behind leaders Kairat, and would represent an upgrade for Otieno as they regularly feature in the UEFA Champions League.
