After stunning Ruth Chepng’etich, Loice Chemnung fires warning to Faith Kipyegon, Beatrice Chebet & Co

Loice Chemnung is eying a ticket to the 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships in key events dominated by Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet.

Tokyo Half Marathon champion Loice Chemnung has set her sights on earning a coveted spot in Team Kenya for 2025 Tokyo World Championships after her strong showing at the Kenya Prisons Cross Country Championships.

Aware of the stiff competition, the 27-year-old has vowed to give it her all to secure a place in the women’s 5000m or 10,000m events.

“The competition to get into the team will be tough, but I want to try my best and make it. There are so many vying for a place in the women’s 5000m and 10,000m, but I want to be one of those going to Tokyo,” Chemnung said via Athletics Kenya.

ai.defer = true;

ai.src = v.location.protocol + o;
d.head.appendChild(ai);
})(window, document, ‘//a.vdo.ai/core/v-pulsesports-co-ke-v0/vdo.ai.js’);

Chepng’etich became the first woman to complete a marathon in under 2:10:10, and Chebet, who broke numerous records in 2024, believes she can lower that mark further by the time she transitions into road racing.

Chemnung has been in scintillating form over the past year, closing out 2024 in spectacular fashion, clocking an impressive 30:25 to win the Hong Kong International 10km race in November.

This victory came on the heels of her most notable achievement of the year, winning the Tokyo Half Marathon in a record-breaking time of 1:07:27.

Her remarkable momentum continued into the new year. On Saturday, January 18 she dominated the senior women’s 10km race at the Kenya Prisons Cross Country Championships held at the Prisons Staff Training College in Ruiru, posting a winning time of 33:09.7.
