Migori – At least five people have been confirmed dead following a horrific accident that occurred in Mabera, Migori county.
The Fatal Accident That Caused the Death of Five People Happened
Confirming the incident, the Kuria West Region Police Commander, Reuben Bett, told TUKO.co.ke that the accident happened at one o'clock in the evening on Sunday, January 19, at Ragana Bridge, Mabera Station.
Bett said the horrific accident happened after a truck carrying maize over the limit from Sirare lost direction and hit two motorcycles as well as two people on foot.
“On Sunday night, around one o'clock, a truck carrying corn hit two people who were walking on foot and a motorcycle, killing five people on the spot in Ragana bridge, Mabera station,” said Bett.
Five people died on the spot, while two other people were injured in the accident and rushed to Isebania Hospital for further treatment.
“The bodies of the deceased have been kept in the mortuary of Akidiva hospital,” he said.
According to witnesses, Nelson Mukobe Francis, the truck was being driven at high speed and hit two bicycles, causing the deaths of those people.
One of the motorcycles was carrying two female teachers and a pedestrian, who were all identified.
“We were at the station and the truck was coming at a high speed, it seemed to lose direction and hit the pedestrians,” said Mukobe.
Residents asked the authorities to come forward and complete the dangerous bridge which needs pedestrian walkways to help avoid such accidents.
“This bridge is narrow and endangers the lives of our people, it needs to be widened and put pedestrian paths along with the ridges,” said Thomas Nyamose, a resident of the area.
