Kajiado – Tragedy struck Ngong after Dismas Kogo, a ranger who was attacked by hyenas five years ago, was found dead on the first day of the year.
Kogo's plight, which had come to light a month earlier, has left his family and friends heartbroken, searching for answers.
The boy's misery began in 2019 when a group of hyenas attacked him and left him with serious leg injuries and the loss of a finger.
Despite requesting compensation from the Wildlife Service (KWS) under the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, his pleas for financial rectification went unanswered for five years.
“I was born to a single mother; I am the first born, and everything depends on me. I was supposed to join the army, and I was sure that I would join, but now I can't do anything. My parents have sold everything they had so that I can recover instead of being given money these to help people at home is the reason why I am still not married, why should I get married now?” he complained when.
Kogo dies in a tragic way
On New Year's Day, Kogo's lifeless body was discovered in his Ngong home.
The evidence gathered by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) includes the rope and the clothes he was wearing at the time of his death.
His mother's words captured the pain of his last message as she told him they would never meet again.
“He told me, 'Mom, I called to say goodbye; we won't see each other again.' That's what he told me,” mother said.
What drove Kogo to harm himself?
At Ngong's mortuary, sadness prevailed as friends and family gathered to pay their respects ahead of his burial there Eldoret.
Kogo's uncle, David Kiprito Leting, expressed anger and frustration over the unfulfilled compensation claim.
Leting said he tried and tracked down Kogo's ransom, claiming that the message about the money may have led to his death.
The distraught uncle recounted how Kogo had been pressured to try to rebuild his life if only KWS would pay him compensation.
“Right now he is in the coffin, he is dead and he is not there, I am tracking his ransom money, but no one will give him his money, he was given a letter that caused his death, the letter said. the money had been sent to the bank, but there was nothing there, and maybe he felt life was no longer worth it, is the person who took his money now happy,” Leting asked.
KWS has not yet issued a statement to discuss the allegations or the tragic circumstances of Kogo's death.
The teacher dies during her husband's funeral
Elsewhere, Mwalimu Irene Imbuka, a beloved teacher from Bugina Junior School, was preparing to bury her husband when she too died.
Imbuka met his tragic death in the bathroom leaving his family and friends in shock.
Her children had to struggle to take their mother's body to the mortuary and return home to bury their father.
