The party confirmed that the Deputy President Kithur Kindiki remains the 1st Deputy Leader of the ruling party despite recent changes following the merger with the Amani National Congress (ANC).
Lamu Governor Issa Timamy has taken the position of the Second Deputy Leader of the Party in a move that seems to aim to strengthen the unity and unity of the party.
In an official statement released on Friday, January 17, the party UDA issued a detailed list of his leadership, reaffirming Kindiki's position.
“Our caution has been given to misleading information about the top leadership of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). We want to clarify and emphasize that contrary to the statements of some areas, Deputy President H.E. Prof. Kithure Kindiki is one of them and remains among them of the two Deputy Leaders of the Party,” read part of the statement.
The ruling party explained that the party's constitution creates two positions for the Deputy Leader of the Party, thus naming Timamy.
What is the new structure of the UDA party?
UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire also spoke about the ongoing changes in the party following its merger with the ANC of the Secretary General of the Council of Ministers Stay Mudavadi.
The merger, which combines the resources and ideologies of the two parties, has led to a change in the party's internal leadership and brand.
The new structure will see other leaders such as ANC Chairman Kelvin Lunani and Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba appointed to prominent positions.
The General Secretary of the UDA party, Hassan Omar, expressed his dismay at the spread of false news and misinformation, which he believes is part of a deliberate effort to disrupt the UDA.
“The UDA Party expresses its dismay at the large increase in fake news, including reports by some major media outlets. Following the situation, Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan urged Kenyans to rely on accurate information and support the party's plans.
