Marcell Jacobs is set to begin his 2025 season at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on February 2, facing rival Noah Lyles as he eyes redemption.
The 2024 season was not a walk in the park for Italian sprinter Marcell Jacobs and as he eyes his season opener at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on February 2, he wants to have a great start to his 2025.
The former Olympic 100m champion faces off against triple world champion Noah Lyles in the 60m race and he has spoken for the first time since being confirmed for the event.
Jacobs, an accomplished indoor racer himself, having won the 2022 world indoor title, has plans to avenge Noah Lyles and he has been working around the clock following his exit from the Paris Olympic Games.

Saint Lucia golden girl Julien Alfred had an outstanding 2024 season that included winning her first Olympics title but what do you know about the sprinter?
Noah Lyles has a great background of the track in New Balance and it will not be an easy thing to dethrone him as the American focuses on his fourth-straight victory in the event.
Breaking his silence, Marcell Jacobs shared a post on his X (Twitter) handle, confirming that he will indeed be in action against Noah Lyles and was hoping for the best as he plans for the challenge.
“Almost there. On February 2nd in Boston, a new indoor season begins. One step at a time, this is where the year takes shape: first the indoor season, then the outdoor, all the way to the World Championships in September. Every race is an opportunity to grow and get closer to my goals,” Jacobs shared.
After the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, the Italian sprint sensation made some bold changes as far as his career is concerned. He changed coaches and started working with Rana Reider, forcing him to relocate from Italy to the US as the tactician’s training camp is located in Jacksonville, Florida.
Jacobs was hoping to see the results of his changes soon but 2024 was a bit tough as he did not defend his Olympic title. In the men’s 100m final at the Olympic Games, Jacobs finished fifth as Noah Lyles reigned.
Lyles clocked an impressive 9.79 seconds ahead of Kishane Thompson (9.79) and Fred Kerley (9.81). Jacobs clocked 9.85 seconds for his fifth-place finish.
Elaine Thompson-Herah remains a symbol of resilience, dominating sprints despite injuries, with a stellar career marked by Olympics glory, historic times, and unwavering dedication.
However, at the start of the season, Jacobs had show great potential, winning the European 100m title and going ahead to claimed the men’s 4x100m relay title.
In 2025, he hopes to bounce back to winning ways and hopefully make a name for himself at the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan where he first made history in 2021.
