Nairobi – The Amani National Congress (ANC), which was previously led by Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi, offered to join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The development was announced on Friday, January 17, by the national chairman of the party UDA Cecily Mbarire.
Mbarire, who is also the governor of Embu, said the new outfit will use a new name, brand, and color, as it adopts the logo and image of the folded party.
It will be known as the United Democratic Alliance Party, with its leaders guaranteeing that it will be an outfit with a national perspective.
“By appreciating and reflecting on the common and shared ideas of the greatness of economic empowerment, peace and development, the UDA party and the ANC have today united to become a party known as the UDA which will also change its name and brand,” said Mbarire.
“The party has incorporated the ANC's identity symbols in logos, imagery, and topography into the new party brand and as a result will make many changes in the governance and operation of the party,” he added.
He announced that the new outfit would meet the values of the ANC party and include its (ANC) leadership.
How Ruto's new party will work
Therefore, Lamu governor Issa Timamy will serve as the party's deputy leader, Kelvin Lunani as deputy chairman, and Emuhaya MP Omboko Milema as deputy general secretary.
Mbarire added that the entire secretariat and staff of the ANC will be brought into the fold to work with their UDA counterparts.
He said the committee has already been formed to facilitate the union and balance the two parties in a seamless political structure.
A series of consolidation activities have also been scheduled, with senior leaders now looking to promote the outfit and sign up members across the country.
Mudavadi left the leadership of the ANC to Timamy, who has led it until its merger.
The party was among many other parties united under the union of Kenya First with whose ticket Ruto ran for the presidency in 2022.
The merger appears to be a preliminary to Ruto get his second term in the 2027 vote.
What are Ruto's chances in 2027?
Ruto is believed to be interested in using all opportunities to overcome the awakening of young Kenyan voters who have vowed to oust him in the next election.
It is understood that the 2027 race to the White House is proving to be interesting as groups are emerging with the intention of removing ordinary politicians from the equation of power.
For decades, elections have centered on post-independence figures such as Raila Odinga, Ruto, Kalonzo MusyokaMudavadi and Uhuru Kenyatta, among others.
Due to the rebellion of Gen Z last year, there is a possibility that the usual order may fail as many young people vow to change the political situation.
Aware of the coming changes, Ruto has appeared to want cooperation with his former political rival, Raila, in order to secure his second and final term.
With the youth having declared themselves against his second term, Ruto intends to use Raila's political power, and use Raila's political foundations to strengthen his bid for re-election, by supporting his (Raila's) bid for the African Union Commission (AUC). ) chairmanship, and entry of ODM officers into the National Executive Council.
