Where is Julien Alfred from?
Born in the tiny Caribbean Island of Saint Lucia on June 10, 2001, Julien Alfred lost her father when she was 12 and left home at 14.
She attended Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School in Saint Lucia (2013-2015) and St Catherine High School in Jamaica (2015-2018) before moving to the United States to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Youth & Community Studies at the University of Texas where she combined her studies with athletics.
She honed her skills at the University of Texas, winning a number of college championships which prepared her for a career in sprints.

Julien Alfred is coached by Texas-based Edrick Floreal, who also trains Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith and Ireland’s Rhasidat Adeleke.

Working with Edrick Floreal has turned Julien Alfred into a beast although she had to endure losses before she tasted victory.
Alfred could only make the 100m semi-final at the 2022 World Championships and the following year, she was fifth over the distance and fourth in 200m.
However, in 2024, Julien Alfred came of age, winning the World Indoor Championships gold in 60m and she never looked back as she went on to win Saint Lucia’s first-ever Olympics gold medal when she silenced world champion Sha’Carri Richardson in the 100m.
She did it in style, winning the race in a national record 10.72 seconds, setting a new personal best, which was the second fastest time of the year.
