Kithure Kindiki Dropped from Deputy Leader of the Party Following the UDA-ANC Merger

The United Democratic Union (UDA) led by President William Ruto (UDA) has introduced new changes in its leadership and brand after merging with the Prime Ministerial Structure Stay Mudavadi of the Amani National Coalition (ANC).

Has Kindiki been dismissed as the deputy leader of the UDA party?

Speaking at an official event held at the State House, the National Chairman of UDA Cecily Mbarire announced that the party will adopt a change in its logo and emblems following the merger.

“Our new face is the face of a united Kenya, where every Kenyan should be. The United Democratic Alliance Party and the Amani National Congress today have united to be known as the United Democratic Alliance Party, which will change the party has included the symbols of the ANC's identity in the logo, image and topography ,” Mbarire said.

The merger of the two parties will also reshape the leadership of the ruling party, while Kithur Kindiki being removed as the deputy leader of the party.

Mbarire announced that former ANC deputy leader and Lamu Governor Issa Timamy will replace Kindiki. Emuhaya MP Omboko Milema will serve as deputy secretary general.

“Therefore, the following officers will be appointed as officers of the new party, starting immediately. The deputy leader of the party will be Mr. Issa Timmy. The vice chairman will be Kelvin Lunani,” Mbarire said.

Mbarire confirmed that the alliance will unite the ANC secretariat in a new structure, including directors who will help advance the party's agenda.

He further emphasized that a committee has already been formed to facilitate the integration and alignment of the two parties into a seamless political structure.

A series of post-merger activities are also planned. The leadership is now focused on promoting the new union and registering members across the country.

The change in leadership comes less than two months after Kindiki was appointed as the deputy leader of the UDA party, succeeding the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

In a statement released on Monday, November 11, the UDA Central Council (NEC) appointed Kindiki as the party's deputy leader.

The ruling party cited the removal of the former deputy president Gachagua as the reason for his inadequacy.

After assuming his new position, Kindiki promised to serve faithfully and emphasized that the party will collaborate with other institutions to face the challenges facing the party and the country.

The deputy president said he is taking up the position of deputy leader of the party at a difficult time for the country, stressing that the UDA party represents the unity of all Kenyans, regardless of their origins.
