Uasin Gishu- A family in Four Mile, Eldoretcan now breathe a sigh of relief after learning that their relative, Kenya Defense Force officer Abdullahi Issa Ibrahim, who was presumed dead nine years ago, is alive.

Ibrahim went viral on the internet after a widely circulated video showing him asking the Kenyan government for help to return home.
The man, dressed in the uniform of KDFsaid in the video that he has been held by Al Shabaab in Somalia for about nine years.
“I am a Kenyan soldier. I joined the army in 1986. Al-Shabaab arrested me on January 15, 2016, during an Al-Shabaab attack on the KDF camp in El Adde,” Ibrahim said.
His family recounted the pain they have endured for years, thinking that their long-lost relative was already dead.
Ibrahim's daughter, Kadra Abdullahi, told Citizen TV that she received a call from an unknown number in Somalia about a month before her father's video went viral.
Kadra said the caller identified himself as his biological father for a long time, leaving him surprised and confused as he struggled to believe the revelation.
“We didn't have his confirmation, I asked him to ask those who held him to send us his picture or video so that we can start the journey of how to help him, then he said they will reach me through it. their media link,” Kadra said.
The news of Ibrahim's condition has reopened painful wounds for the family. His daughter said they had already agreed to his death after KDF issued a death certificate to confirm his death.
“We did the rites of my father's funeral because we knew he was not here,” Kadra said.
Ibrahim's family now insists that those holding him hostage only want to contact the Kenyan government to release him.

In a separate case, a 24-year-old man who was presumed dead and buried following a fatal road accident returned home.
Ashraf Bamusungwire from Uganda he was “buried” on September 25, 2024, after his family arranged for an ambulance to bring his body from the accident scene in Migyera, Nakasongola District, where he reportedly went to do routine work.
Bamusungwire reportedly resurfaced two days before the final funeral rites, known as 'duwa' in Islamic tradition.
Upon his return, the family performed a traditional ritual to cleanse the 24-year-old before fully welcoming him back.
