A family in Murang'a County is in mourning after a 15-year-old Grade 9 student died in a shocking accident at school.
Kameme TV reported that the tragedy happened in the evening when the boy was returning home after school.
According to witnesses, the boy was bending over near the school gate to tie his shoelaces when the tragedy happened.
A large stone came out of the wall of the gate, and a whole part of the wall fell on him.
The student died on the spot due to the effects of the incident.
“It happened yesterday evening. After the accident, the teachers wanted to rush him to the hospital, but they found out that he had already died,” one parent recounted.
Assistant County Commissioner Gitonga Murungi tells how the news was conveyed to the boy's mother.
Murungi explained how they reached the boy's mother, who was in Nairobi at the time.
He revealed that they started by giving him psychological counseling before giving him the news, then they went to the young man's house and found his relatives sad.
The grieving mother was first taken to a private center for counseling before being reunited with her family.
