- Mugwandi Secondary School in Kirinyaga County is in danger of being closed after parents moved all the other students leaving only one
- That lone sophomore now has a full complement of teachers at his service
- A member of the Management Board revealed that they were pleading with the former parents to return their children
Mugwandi Secondary School in Kirinyaga County faces an uncertain future after it was reduced to one pupil taught by eight full teachers.
This unusual situation is due to the long stay without a principal, which led many students to transfer to other colleges.
How is Mugwandi Secondary School recovering?
Recently the Teachers Recruitment Commission (TSC) appointed a principal and teachers in the school to bring stability.
However, the exodus of students has left staff without classrooms to teach, prompting discussions about the school's future.
“The Board of Management (BOM) will meet to discuss the future of the school. There are proposals to return the institution to a TVET (Vocational Education and Training) center or a teacher's college,” said a source from BOM.
He added that they were reaching out to the families of those who displaced their children to bring them back.
The outcome of the BOM meeting will determine whether Mugwandi can regain its status as a vibrant educational institution or take on a new role that benefits the community.
“We hope Mugwandi as an educational center will not just disappear,” he concluded.
