Kericho County was in a state of emergency when armed residents of Chemelet village clashed with the police trying to arrest a suspect who allegedly made death threats.
Police officers of Konoin Station faced stiff resistance as villagers armed with swords and hoes came forward to protect the suspect.
Why Kericho residents chased the police
Being outnumbered, the officers had to ask for help from the police units of Sotik and Bomet to control the situation.
According to information from Citizen Digital, during the violence, Robert Cheruiyot, aged 29, was shot and died, a situation that fueled further chaos.
Enraged by his death, two Cheruiyot brothers retaliated by burning the house and property of the complainant, Benard Kipkurui Chepkwony.
The riots caused two additional houses to catch fire, causing extensive damage and leaving several families homeless.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident, vowing to take action against the perpetrators and restore order.
