The Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has issued a statement in response to public criticism by the Minister of Public Service, Justin Muturi.
Muturi expressed his displeasure with the government's attitude towards the increasing cases of kidnapping, pointing out the ordeal his family went through when his son, Leslie Muturi, was kidnapped in June 2024.
In those responses, the office of DCI He asked Minister Muturi to come forward and help in the investigation.
“The alleged kidnapping case involving Minister Justin Muturi's son is before DCI Kilimani. Given that he is the only child who volunteered to record a statement, we want to call CS Muturi and anyone else who has information about the incident to record a statement with DCI Kilimani,” DCI said in a statement.
What did the DCI say about kidnapping in the country?
The criminal investigation agency also assured the public that many kidnapping cases, including Leslie's, are under investigation.
“We would like to assure the public that most of the kidnapping cases reported to the police have been successfully investigated and are now in court. The investigation of the current cases will not be discriminatory,” added the statement.
What did Justin Muturi say about kidnapping?
In a press conference on Sunday, January 12, a confused Muturi was surprised by the way Kenyans are kidnapped, but no action is seen from the police, who deny involvement.
“I have personally suffered because my son was captured, I was not sure if he was alive or dead, which made us worry and left me and my wife and my family in a state of panic,” he said.
“It must be remembered that I was the Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya at the time, but I could not find my son despite making several requests and demands to all levels of the security agencies. Now, more than six months after that, hardly, my son has not been charged with a crime nothing and no one explained why he was kidnapped and detained,” Muturi added.

Last year, Leslie was allegedly kidnapped in Lavington, Nairobi.
On the night of June 22, 2024, Leslie was reportedly picked up by people believed to be police officers while he was driving in Kilimani.
Leslie was released the next day after being held incommunicado, an incident Muturi says left her family in distress and demanding answers.
