Kisii – A family in Kiamagera Village is in deep grief after receiving the KCSE results of their daughter who passed away just two days after completing her national exams.

Nineteen-year-old Mitchelle Kemunto, who aspired to be a doctor, was studying at a local day school while managing her epilepsy with the support of her parents.

What caused the death of Mitchelle Kemunto?

Kemunto's mother, Vane Moraa, recounted the painful moment when she found out that her daughter had obtained a B-, the grade that allowed her to enter university.

“He had epilepsy, but we managed his condition as he pursued his studies. He finished his exams on November 15. I didn't have the strength to check his results. After two days, I called his principal, who confirmed that he had scored a B-,” Moraa said.

The news has left the family in agony, compounded by the realization of a bright future they have lost.

“The pain is unbearable and he feels rejuvenated again because of his impressive results,” uncle Kemunto said.

The family could only visit his grave, mourning the death of their first-born daughter and dreams of seeing a future doctor between them were cut short.

“All his life, he would say, 'Mom, I want to be a doctor,'” Moraa added.

The sad news comes as other parents across the country are celebrating their children's academic success and planning their future careers.

For the Kemunto family, his success is a source of pride and a reminder of interrupted dreams.
