Kajiado: Man Arrested For Alleged Attempt To Extort M-Pesa Opens Up And Says Who He Is

  • The suspect, Duke Maingi, was arrested along Magadi Road in Kajiado County by plainclothes police officers

Kajiado – A man who was arrested for speeding in Magadi Road there Ongata Rongai sparking public outrage due to growing concern about kidnapping cases has spoken about her plight.

Duke Maingi was caught by plainclothes police officers using a car with registration number KCS 079K.

Although Maingi refused to be arrested, he was eventually put in a car in front of bystanders, causing rumors about the incident.

What happened before the arrest of Duke Maingi?

However, a Citizen TV report revealed that Maingi allegedly tried to steal from a shop M-Money when the owner Elvis Muthoni informed the police.

Muthoni recounted the suspicious events that led to Maingi's arrest.

“Someone came in and told me they wanted me to speak to customer service Safaricom. When I picked up the phone, the person on the line asked me for my agent number and other details. That's when I hesitated,” Muthoni said.

Muthoni added that after the first call, another person continued to contact him using the number Airtel. Suspicious, he alerted his neighbors, who in turn alerted the police.

CCTV footage from the shop confirms the sequence of events, showing Maingi's movements and his arrest.

What did Duke Maingi say about his arrest?

Speaking from the Ongata Rongai Police Station, where he is currently detained, Maingi explained the incident from his perspective.

“The man asked me if there was an M-Pesa store nearby, I answered him, and he told me to go inside and call the M-Pesa agent to talk to them, I did so, and suddenly. I was caught and thrown into the car, I was confused and didn't know where I was being taken, they drove the car and handcuffed me and I had not done anything.

I asked them, 'Who are you?' but they did not answer. One of them slapped me, and that's when I realized that things were serious. I screamed for help, hoping someone would help me, because I didn't know they were police officers,” Maingi told.

Witnesses at the scene have denied the kidnapping allegations, and urged Kenyans not to panic.

They maintain that Maingi was arrested for attempted robbery, not as part of a wider pattern of kidnappings.

The police vow to contact the abducted people, their families

Other News, Bernard Kavuli, the kidnapped student presented himself to the police a few hours after he was released.

The police explained that they will reach out to all the freed people and their families so that they can register information and help in the investigation of kidnapping allegations.

The police maintained their promise to ensure that the kidnapping cases are solved, and the suspects brought to justice.
