British outlet predicts doom for American sprint queen in 2025

The athletics-only outlet has cast doubts over Sha’Carri Richardson’s ability to defend her 100m world title as well as her participation in 200m at the 2025 World Championships.

Predictions are being made about athletes who will dominate in 2025 and American spring queen Sha’Carri Richardson is among those projected to shine.

Richardson is the 100m world champion and Olympics silver medalist over the distance. She also has a bronze medal in 200m from the 2023 World Championships.

With the 2025 World Championships set to take place in Tokyo, Japan, the American is tipped to be among those going for gold while she will also be looking to make her presence felt in 200m after failing to qualify for the Olympics in the race.

World 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson is hoping to reclaim her throne in 2025 but who are the female sprinters standing on her way to glory this season?

However, British outlet Athletics Weekly does not think Richardson stands a chance of winning gold in both events in Tokyo going by their predictions for the year.

Predicting how the 2025 World Championships will turn out, Athletics Weekly’s panel of experts feel Richardson will be in the shadow of Olympics champion Julien Alfred for a second season running and believe she has a zero chance of being on the podium in 200m

Three of the four-member panel has picked Alfred to win the 100m, with just one feeling Richardson will retain her world title, while three has it for the American to claim silver.

'Hard work always shows up'- American sprinter Gabby Thomas weighs in on AI vs authenticity

The 28-year-old sprinter has sparked a conversation on authenticity in sports, balancing Olympic glory with a blossoming fashion career.

In the 200m, the panel is divided between Olympics champion Gabby Thomas and world champion Shericka Jackson, with two each for either. Two have picked Alfred to win a silver and a bronze respectively while two feel Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith will bag bronze as one cast their vote for bronze in favour of Daryll Neita, also from Britain.

There is no Richardson in sight even though she is the world 200m bronze medalist perhaps owing to the fact that she did not make it to the Olympics over the distance.

While these are just predictions, it shows how Richardson’s stock has fallen amid an increase in competition, especially following the rise to prominence of St Lucia’s Alfred.

Sha'Carri Richardson: American sprint queen shares sneak peek into trip with Christian Coleman

The alleged sprint couple have continued to intrigue fans with continued lovey-dovey post about each other.

Alfred and Richardson had great battles in 2024, with the former winning most of them, including the one that mattered at the Olympics.

Heading into 2025, Richardson needs no motivation as she will be out to not just silence her rivals but her doubters as well.
