Andreas Almgren breaks European record to take Valencia 10km title after outkicking Vincent Langat

Andreas Almgren made history by winning the Valencia 10k race after steering clear against his rivals in the closing stages

Andreas Almgren produced a devastating late kick to take the 10k Valencia on January 12.

Inside the closing stages, Almgren was in a lead group of three alongside Vincent Langat of Kenya and Switzerland’s Dominic Lobalu according to Olympics.com.


Nageeye went toe-to-toe with Chebet before outckicking him in the final 400 meters to win the race in 2:07:39.


Langat pushed the pace at the front as he tried to break his two rivals, but it soon became a duel between the two Europeans. And the 29-year-old Swede – world junior 800m bronze medallist back in 2014 – powered home over the last 50 metres to win in a new European record of 26:52.

South Sudan-born Lobalu, who finished fourth in the 5000m at Paris 2024 when representing the Refugee Olympic Team, took second ahead of Langat on what has been billed the fastest 10km road course in the world.
