Kisii – The release of the results of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2024 has given rise to extraordinary cases of tenacity and determination.
Among them is the inspiring story of Brian Otucho, a 15-year-old from the village of Riana, who overcame great challenges and emerged as one of the best performing students in the country.
The atmosphere at home was filled with songs of praise and prayer as Otucho's family and friends gathered to honor his hard work.
Otucho's success has won the hearts of many, as he managed to score a straight A despite missing school for almost a whole year due to mental problems.
His remarkable achievement is a testament to the power of perseverance and faith, celebrated by family and friends in a joyous gathering at his home.
What were Otucho's days at school like?
Raised by a single mother, Otucho's journey to success was not easy, as some might assume.
His love for academics was evident from childhood, with a strong desire to become a pilot.
However, his dreams were cut short when he faced mental health challenges in third form, forcing him to take almost a year out of school.
“The journey has been difficult, but God has brought me through. It was a difficult time because of the challenge of illness, but then God was there and fought for me,” Otucho recounted, reflecting on his troubles.
Despite the defeat, Otucho's determination remained unshaken and with the unwavering support of his family and his faith in God, he returned to school and devoted himself completely.
What score did Otucho's family expect him to get?
Otucho's mother, Consalia Otucho, who has been his main source of support, expressed her great pride in her son's success.
Speaking during the celebration, he recounted the difficult times they endured, especially when he failed to attend school.
“He loved to study, but when he reached the 3rd form, he faced the challenge of illness. He stayed out for almost a whole year,” he shared, his voice full of excitement.
Otucho's uncle, William Nyangara, supported the family's sentiments, recognizing the challenges they faced and their gratitude for his success.
“We did not expect much, but because God is God, we are happy with what we received,” said Nyangara, as the family celebrated their unexpected victory.
