This incident was revealed by Nakuru police officer Sammy Ondimu, who condemned the act noting that police officers should have dignity.

Ondimu told TUKO.co.ke that the woman made a mistake but she did not deserve to be punished for what she did with her children.

“I agree that he made a mistake, but as an officer, you need to be wise in dealing with our brothers and sisters. In such a case, you can call the woman to report to the station the next day if it is already midnight,” he said.

Through his Facebook page, the officer noted that the woman and her daughters slept at the station in a cell.

“This morning I was very heartbroken when I heard that my colleague arrested this woman and her children. I felt bad and even cried when I saw them in that situation,” he said.

He encouraged his colleagues in uniform to act wisely while serving and to always remember that they are serving people who could be their brothers and sisters.

“You can be an officer today, and tomorrow you become an ordinary citizen. Imprisoning people should not be the first thing on your mind. How would you feel if someone imprisoned your mother and her children?” he asked.

Kenyans are angry with the police

Rosy Mother Waithero:

“It is very sad, even if he did something wrong, what about the innocent children? Where has the personality gone?”

Eve Gatah:

“Sometimes I wonder if they are really taught anything while in school. Compassion and understanding are encouraged in our work. God, please remember those who feel they have authority and judge them accordingly.”

Elvis Paul:

“There is no need for praise, brother. The crime committed determines the conditions of arrest and the following procedures, and remember there are also conditions that are considered when giving money bail or free bail. We even have mothers and children in prison, so let's first find out what the mother did before emotional!”

Afande Cele:

“What was the mistake? Tell us so we can discuss from that point of view. If it is a small mistake, then the officer should have handled this issue better, but what if it is a big mistake? This job can put an officer between a rock and a hard place.”

Harriet Maleche:

“This is so sad and evil that police officers should be arrested. It is illegal to keep children in cells. Human rights people would take this as a serious case. Thank God we have some good police officers.”
