Why was a man jailed for trying to rape a girl?
The court found 22-year-old Rajabu guilty of the crime and imprisoned him for six months.
Court documents show that Rajabu committed the offense on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
When he was given a chance to defend himself, the young man asked for mercy saying he was a first time offender.
He further revealed that he wore army uniforms to impress the girl he liked.
“I didn't want him to reject me,” he said.
However, the judge dismissed his defense, saying his sentence would set an example to stop such behavior.
The Constitution spells out punishment for: any person who 'wears the uniform of the Defense Forces or any other uniform which is so, similar to the uniform of any Defense Force or that is likely to commit an offence'.
The surprising thing is that many netizens said the sentence was harsh, and the Mwanza judge, Tanzaniahe should have been more gentle.
