Are there plans to expel George Natembeya from office?

Natembeya claimed that there are those who are plotting to remove him from office after calling for the President William Ruto publicly address the increasing cases of kidnapping in the country.

Speaking to TV47, the governor claimed that those planning to fire him are the same people who were responsible for the kidnapping.

He argued that the constitution of Kenya guarantees citizens the freedom to express their opinions on various issues openly.

“Why do people get angry when I express my opinion to the point of finding fault? They do this with the aim of removing me from office because I have exercised my freedom of speech,” Natembeya said.

Natembeya claimed that some people are trying to tarnish his name by suggesting that he is collaborating with the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

He said that although Gachagua is not his rival, he has never discussed politics with him at any time.

“There are those who try to look good in front of the president by saying that I work with Gachagua. Gachagua and I are not enemies and we have never talked about politics. We have never talked on the phone to plan political issues,” he said.

Was Ichung'wah upset by Natembeya's remarks?

Natembeya's remarks come a few days after Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wah criticized him in relation to his remarks about the kidnapping.

He seemed to suggest that the governor should team up with the former deputy president Gachagua to promote the claims of divisive politics. He also linked Natembeya to kidnappings and murders during the administration of Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ichung'wah's remarks led Natembeya to threaten legal action. He apologized within three days and warned of defamation charges if Ichung'wah failed to comply.
