Chaos erupted in the village of Kathigiriri, Kirinyaga county during the funeral of a 16-year-old girl who was allegedly killed.
Angry mourners storm the home of Purity Makena Mugo's murder suspect with his coffin.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Makena's aunt, Idah Mwensh, said the body of the young girl was found on December 27, 2024.
“He was killed on the night of December 26 last year and we found his body the next day near the river. We took his coffin to the suspect's house to seek answers and justice,” said Idah.
He noted that angry locals destroyed the suspect's house and chased his relatives out of the village.
How Did the Kirinyaga Girl Die?
According to reports, the girl's body was found lifeless, tied to a stone near the river, a situation that caused grief and anger among residents.
Her aunt claimed that her nephew was killed by her boyfriend after she found out that she was having an affair with another man.
“He found out his lover had a relationship with another man, he caught him doing the act and that's why he was killed.”
Idah said that the two men were arrested and are currently being detained.
In photos shared on Facebook by Nyeri Mohoro NewsHub, residents were seen carrying Makena's coffin along Murram Road and through the village centre.
The mourners allegedly destroyed the suspect's property before proceeding with the girl's burial.
Other photos showed family, friends, and locals gathering under a tent to pay their last respects before the deceased was buried.
