Kisii – Hundreds of angry residents blocked the Migori-Kisii Highway at Nyachenge business centre.
Protesters placed stones on the road, set tires on fire and chanted angrily, bringing traffic to a standstill for most of the day.
Why were Kisii residents protesting?
Protesters took to the streets to complain about the police's alleged release of two murder suspects.
Residents of Nyachenge village expressed their dissatisfaction with the act, claiming that the released suspects have continued to disrupt peace in the area.
“We are very tired of these suspects who keep bothering us,” said Nyambeka Moriasi, one of the residents, when he spoke to TUKO.co.ke.
Angry residents insisted that the suspects be arrested and justice be done.
“Either arrest them and bring them to court or we will take the law into our own hands,” said Clement Nyakundi, another protester.
Sabina Otondi, the wife of one of the victims of the murder, John Otondi, joined the protest that with the relatives of the late Samwel Ombui.
The families demanded justice for their loved ones.
How was the situation on the Kisii-Migori road?
Drivers were forced to find alternative rural routes, as the road was impassable from both Kisii and Migori for several hours.
The disruption caused travel delays and frustration for many road users.
“These protests have caused travel delays and frustration for those trying to reach their destinations,” said William Mariba, a road user.
The police have not yet responded to the demands to release the Kisii murder suspects.
