Kibet, who had been missing for two weeks, announced his safe return on Monday, January 6, 2025, through a post on social media.

The young man was kidnapped shortly after meeting the senator kiss Okiya Omtatah in Nairobi.

His family confirmed his return to Nakuru after his release on Monday morning, while Kibet explained that he was dumped in Luanda, Vihiga county, around 3 to 4 am.

He mentioned that after being abandoned, he attended a local “disco matanga” (funeral eve) before booking a bus ticket back home.

Kibet's release came hours after his brother, Rony Kiplangat, was also released. Kiplangat had reportedly been given a bus fare by his captors before being dropped off in Machakos at three in the morning.

Will Kibet continue to criticize the government?

While still dealing with his tragic event, Kibet had a conversation with Twitter user @kafangi, where he shared his thoughts about the future.

In their interview, Kibet revealed that he would tone down his vocal criticism of the government.

When pressed about whether he would continue to criticize the government, Kibet said he would take a back seat.

“But I will have to be careful with my statements (online posts criticizing the government and President William Ruto).”

In the conversation, Kibet also expressed his feelings about his experience, laughing off questions about whether he had been physically injured, expressing the seriousness of the situation with sarcastic words.

He further reflected on how time had passed since his capture while saying that he was counting the days.

“In the morning, I would say 'today is the date',” he said, revealing the mental crisis that befell him.

Activist Bernard Kavuli files a statement after being released

They explained that one of the activists Bernard Kavuli volunteered at the police station to file a statement and help in the ongoing investigation.

Authorities also promised to contact all the abductees and their families as they continue to investigate the incidents.
