What caused the death of Roseline Odede?

According to information obtained by TUKO.co.ke, KNCHR deputy chairman Raymond Nyeris confirmed that Odede died on Friday, January 3, after a brief illness.

“It is with great shock and sadness that I inform you of the death of Roseline Odhiambo Odede, HSC, the chairperson of the Kenya National Human Rights Commission, which occurred yesterday after a brief illness,” the statement read in part.

He said his sudden death is a great loss for the human rights commission and the entire nation.

Nyeris also sent his condolences to the family and friends of the late human rights defender.

“During this time of mourning, we send our deepest condolences and condolences to family, friends and all who knew Roseline. May the memories of her exceptional service bring comfort and strength during this difficult time,” Nyeris added.

What is the role of KNCHR?

The human rights commission has an important role in protecting the rights of every Kenyan against violations.

For example, the deputy chairman of the commission, Nyeris, has been at the forefront of denouncing the wave of kidnapping cases in the country recently.

On November 20, 2024, he condemned the increasing cases of kidnappings in the country, describing them as alarming.

He said that the increase in tension and stress among people is fueled by the high cost of living, limited access to essential services such as health, indifference and lack of responsibility.

Nyeris added that the government must deal with corruption and implement development projects without adversely affecting the living conditions of the people in order to build a more united nation.
