Nairobi: The family of activist Ibrahim Mwiti, who disappeared in November 2024, mourns after finding his lifeless body in the hospital Thika Level 5.

How did Ibrahim Mwiti disappear?

The family of the late activist, who also worked as a bodaboda driver in Nairobi, said Mwiti was last seen in the city's Central Business District before he disappeared.

The punishment led to the start of a manhunt that lasted almost two months.

At the time, family and close friends turned to social media, asking Kenyans for help in finding their loved one.

The family also filed a missing person's report with the police on November 15, 2024, to aid in their search.

The search for Mwiti ended in tragedy after his body was found in the mortuary on Thursday, January 2.

How did Ibrahim Mwiti die?

The mother of the deceased, Sadhiya Iman, told Taifa that they were informed in the mortuary that her son had died after being hit by a car and the driver who hit him had disappeared.

“I have looked at his body, and it appears to be a case of hit and run, although I have heard rumors circulating on some blogs that he was captured and killed,” said Sadhiah Iman in an early phone conversation, “Iman said.

Iman further explained that the delay in finding the body was because Mwiti did not have identification at the time of his death.

The bodaboda driver from Nairobi was buried on Friday, January 3, in the Lang'ata cemetery according to Islamic traditions.

News of Mwiti's death sparked outrage among Kenyans, with many expressing disappointment with the government Kenya First and others questioning the circumstances of his death.

The announcement of Mwiti's death comes amid reports of several Kenyans allegedly kidnapped.

Kenyans still missing following the alleged kidnapping include Steve Mbisi from Machakos, Peter Muteti and Bernard Kavuli from Nairobi, Rony Kiplang'at from Kiambu, Billy Mwangi from Embu, and George Kibet, also known as Kibet Bull, from Nairobi.
