Kioni, in a statement posted on his official X page on Thursday, January 2, dared Gachagua to provide concrete evidence and name the people responsible for the disturbing increase in kidnappings.

His remarks come after Gachagua's previous threats to reveal the identity of those allegedly involved in the kidnapping that has shaken the nation.

On Friday, December 27, Gachagua claimed to know the secret unit responsible for the kidnapping, promising to reveal their identity in the future.

However, since he made these statements, Gachagua has remained tight-lipped, causing Kioni to accuse him of using the issue for political dramas.

The Jubilee leader did not hesitate, calling out the former DP for ignoring a sensitive issue that has left many families sad.

“Rigathi Gachagua must stop underestimating the serious issue of kidnapping in the country. His remarks about exposing those involved, without following up with actionable disclosure, are both irresponsible and a slap in the face to the families who suffer from these tragedies,” Kioni insisted.

Why did Gachagua mention the kidnappers?

According to Kioni, such statements do more harm than good, removing public confidence at this time when the nation is facing a major crisis.

Kioni pointed out that the lives of Kenyans are at risk, and this issue needs to be dealt with urgently and strong action should be taken, not political politeness.

“This is not a game, nor is it a platform for empty words, he should either give true information to the nation or refrain from misleading statements, the nation deserves decisive leadership and not drama, lives are at risk and this matter needs a high level of attention. Playing politics with such a sensitive issue is unacceptable and is a betrayal of public trust,” he added.

Are the Kenyan police involved in kidnappings?

As previously reported, the National Police Service (NPS) dissociated itself from such unfair practices.

Inspector General Douglas Kanja said the service is committed to complying with the law and that it will not participate in such barbaric acts.

He added that the police strictly adhere to the force's standing rules, which reflect how the criminal justice system works, and kidnapping is excluded.

The Police IG regretted that the public was wrongly associating the police with illegal wastage of force without any evidence.
