UAE: Pilot, 26-year-old doctor die in plane crash shortly after takeoff

Ras Al Khaimah, UAE—A light aircraft crash on the beach of Ras Al Khaimah on Sunday claimed the lives of two people, the Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) confirmed.

The plane belonging to Al Jazeera Air Sports Club, plunged into the sea shortly after take off, leaving the pilot and passengers dead.

Where did the UAE plane crash occur?

Republic of the World reports that the accident happened at around 2 pm near the Cove Rotana Hotel, a popular seaside resort.

The victims were identified as a 26-year-old Pakistani pilot and Indian doctor Sulaymaan Al Majid, also 26, who chartered the plane for a sight-seeing experience.

Dr. Sulaymaan's family, who had accompanied him to the aviation club, were at the scene and waiting for his return when the tragedy occurred.

Khaleej Times added that the deceased doctor's younger brother was scheduled to take the next flight.

“At first, we were told that the glider had lost radio contact,” said Majid Mukarram, Sulaymaan's father. “Later, we were informed that it had made an emergency landing, but we got the sad truth when we got to the hospital.”

The death of Dr. Sulaymaan shattered the family, his colleagues

The family expressed their grief over the loss of Sulaymaan, whom they described as “the light of their lives.”

His father added:

“As a family, we were preparing for the New Year celebrations, but this tragedy has torn our world apart. Time feels like it has stopped for us.”

Sulaymaan, a clinical worker at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust in England, was well respected in his profession.

A disastrous week for airlines

The GCAA has launched an extensive investigation to determine the cause of the crash, with teams working to recover debris and gather evidence.

The authority has sent condolences to the families of the victims, offering support during this difficult period.

The incident is the third aviation tragedy to be reported in the past week, raising concerns about airline safety standards.

The most famous of them is the Jeju Air crash where 179 of the 181 passengers on board died.
