Nyandarua – Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua he has once again been at the center of a controversial attack during an event in Nyandarua county.
Gachagua had attended a Thanksgiving Service in Shamata, Nyandarua, where the situation turned violent.
What caused the violence at the Gachagua Nyandarua event?
In a Facebook post, Gachagua claimed that a police officer in uniform gave a canister of tear gas to a low-ranking officer in civilian clothes.
The junior officer threw the gas towards the VIP tent where Gachagua and other leaders were sitting.
“Without any provocation, the police inspector in uniform handed over the officer in civilian clothes to throw tear gas into the tent of the distinguished guests, causing fear and panic. This is despite the fact that the prayers were peaceful and everyone was calm,” said Gachagua in his statement.

The former deputy president thanked the people of Shamata for taking action, escorting the attackers out and providing protection to the women and children present at the event.
“I would like to acknowledge the courage and resilience of everyone present at this event for ensuring that, despite this police attack, the prayer continued until the end,” added Gachagua.
In addition, he strongly criticized the National Police Service, saying they are already ashamed of carrying out illegal kidnappings.

Gachagua also pointed the blame at President William Ruto, telling him that threats will not stop Kenyans from criticizing the government.
“For President Ruto, no amount of threats or violence will stop Kenyans from criticizing your government, demanding good governance and accountability, or asking you to respect democracy and the rule of law,” he said.
