The video of politician Peter Salasya's house being filled with kilos of sugar has created mixed feelings on social media.

Salasya posted a check of KSh 1 million on social media that he intended to pay for sugar from the factory Mumias Sugar Company.

The Member of Parliament for Mumias East revealed that he was paying for the sugar to support the company.

Salasya also expressed his desire to share with people from his constituency to enjoy the festive season.

“I paid one million shillings to Mumias Sugar this evening to get enough sugar for my people tomorrow. Then you get someone saying I get sugar for free. We must support Mumias Sugar by buying in cash and not by forcing them to accept our farmers are oppressed.”

The politician said that he should remain poor but not disappoint his voters.

“What my people in East Mumias did to me by electing me to be their leader is a story to tell. It is good that I remain poor but they still feel that I appreciate their efforts. We will meet tomorrow morning at my house so that we can celebrate together.”

In another video, Salasya showed off the sugar he got from Mumias Sugar, and the video created mixed reactions.

Some Kenyans praised Salasya for his generous heart, while others wanted him to empower the people of his constituency more.
