Kitui – Former Home Affairs Minister Fred Matiang'i brought Kitui to life when he visited the Ukambani region on Friday, December 20, creating a buzz among the locals.
The former Minister's visit comes amid reports that he is considering running for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
Citizen Digital reports that Matiang'i was in Kitui to pay his respects to the family of his longtime bodyguard, Christopher Wambua, who died in September.
Wambua, who hailed from Katulani village, had served with Matiang'i for a decade, building a relationship that transcended professional duties.
How Matiang'i interacted with Kitui residents
On his way back from where he came from, Matiang'i stopped several times along the Kitui-Machakos road, taking time to talk to residents and vendors.
His communication with traders and vegetable mothers brought joy and excitement, while many rushed to capture the event with their phones.
Pictures circulating online showed Matiang'i in a relaxed and happy mood, surrounded by an excited crowd.
In one scene, he was seen buying fruits and other local products from roadside vendors, an act that may have won him the love of the local residents.
Inside Fred Matiang'i's presidential plan
Matiang'i's intention to run for the presidency became clear recently after it was reported that he enlisted the services of an international influence group to help manage his presidential bid.
He is said to have hired a consulting firm that helped secure the victory of Duma Boko, the new president of Botswana.
On July 13, Matiang'i allegedly signed a contract with the Canadian firm Dickens & Madson, headed by former Israeli Mossad agent and prominent consultant Ari Ben-Menashe.
Matiang'i, who has not yet officially announced his intention to run for president, is said to have wanted the company to help him by lobbying influential organizations in Kenya, the United States, and foreign governments to improve his international image and raise funds for his campaigns.
It is reported that he agreed to pay KSh 32 million for those services, including persuading international organizations to support him.
