Embu: Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is striving to strengthen his influence in Mount Kenya after the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua to endorse him as the prospective president of Kenya.
On Thursday, December 19, Kalonzo Musyokaalong with other Azimio leaders including Eugene Wamalwa of the Democratic Action Party-Kenya and Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni, visited Embu County, Mount Kenya area.
During their visit, the locals welcomed Kalonzo with joy, giving him the opportunity to address them and present his agenda to run for the presidency in 2027.
Kalonzo also spoke about the delay in the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), saying that if it is not formed by 2025, he will lead the country to protest.
In addition, he emphasized the need for the ODM Party led by Raila Odinga to clarify whether it cooperates with the government of Kenya Kwanza or remains on the side of the opposition.
“We also want ODM to tell us before the New Year 2025: Are you on the side of the opposition or are you in the government? You must have a clear position,” said Kalonzo.
The conditions that Gachagua gave to Kalonzo
In a separate incident, former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua hinted at the possibility of cooperation with Kalonzo.
Speaking in Mbooni, Makueni County, on Wednesday, December 18, Gachagua advised Kalonzo to double the Ukambani votes so that he can get support from Mt Kenya region.
The former deputy president encouraged Kalonzo to lead the voter registration efforts in the Ukambani region to help their coalition which is expected to win the 2027 presidential election.
According to Gachagua, Mt Kenya area will give 10 million votes, which he said will be enough to form the next government.
