The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports in Kenya has yet again faced a massive change with Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen being transferred to another department.
This has come at a critical time when Kenya is preparing to host CHAN and the Confederation of African Football president Patrick Motsepe will be visiting the country on Friday, December 20 to monitor the progress of the stadium.
CS Murkomen was appointed the Sports CS on August 8 and in less than six months, he has been moved to another department, the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.
Honourable Salim Mvurya has now been appointed as the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports.
Sports CS Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed the areas that are being worked on first at Kasarani Stadium to get it ready for 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN).
Mvurya has also been affected by the changes twice as he was appointed the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs before being appointed as the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry.
This is the third time the sports docket is facing the change as Ababu Namwamba was the first cabinet secretary before Murkomen replaced him. Ababu Namwamba has now been appointed as the Permanent Representative of Kenya to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)/United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON).
He now has a task to oversee the ongoing projects as Kenya prepares to host CHAN scheduled for February 1 to February 28 next year. The event will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

As things stand, Kenyans have expressed uncertainty on whether the stadiums will be ready by next year and with the reshuffling process, it might take longer.
