Elgeyo Marakwet – There has been a tense situation at the police station in Elgeyo-Marakwet after residents found a missing cow slaughtered inside the police station.
What happened at Kaptagat Police Station?
According to the residents of the area, three cows went missing a few weeks ago, and they were trying to find them without success until the night of Monday, December 16, when they received information that a carcass had been seen inside the Kaptagat Police Station.
“It was reported by Josephine Kandie that her cows were lost today around 6pm. Later she got information that there was a cow that had been slaughtered within the premises of the Kaptagat Police Station, and those who were found slaughtering fled after discovering a crowd anger is approaching,” a police statement seen by TUKO.co.ke read.

Residents showed up in large numbers at the station and demanded the arrest of the police officers who accused them of slaughtering their livestock.
The residents threatened to take the law into their own hands if the perpetrators of the cattle theft and slaughter were not brought to justice.
“We will not leave this station until we know the officers responsible for these actions,” one resident was heard threatening.

The local police commander as well MCA of the area arrived at the station to try to calm the residents who were angry and threatened to burn the police station.
The initial investigation led to the arrest of two police officers who were found at the scene and were strongly accused by the residents of being involved in the slaughter of the cows.
“The scene of the incident was visited by SCPC Keiyo, SCCIO Keiyo South, and OCS of Kaptagat. The area was secured, investigated and recorded accordingly. However, the situation was violent but was calmed down by the MCA of the area. Two suspects, namely No. 117047 PC Chtispus Butali and No. 125908 PC Samuel Mbugua Njuguna, who were found at the scene and named, have been arrested and detained remand. The three men are alleged to have hijacked a truck that was transporting rice from Mombasa to Nairobi on Wednesday, June 5 at 8:30 p.m.
According to the TV 47 report, the suspects are Jude Kandie, John Musingi, and Francis Mutiso, who is a police officer.
