Maasai Mara University Student Dies Weeks After Graduation

  • On Saturday, December 14, an accident involving a Toyota saloon car and an Easy Coach bus on the Narok-Bomet road left one woman dead and three others injured
  • The deceased woman has been identified as Melissa Jepchumba, a recent graduate of Maasai Mara University

Melissa Jepchumba from Mogoget village in Nandi County died in a fatal accident on Narok Highway on Saturday, December 14.

The fatal accident happened less than a week after his graduation, which took place on Monday, December 9.

A fellow student told TUKO.co.ke that the deceased had graduated with a diploma in Social Work and Community Development.

Member of Parliament for Chemusei, Biego Paul Kibichiy, visited Melissa's family and comforted them.

In his message, Kibichiy said that it was a great loss for the family, given that Melissa had started a promising life after her graduation.

“With deep sadness, I offer my sincere condolences to Mr. and Mrs. John Sirtui of the Kapsirtui family in Mogoget village this evening following the sudden death of their daughter Melissa Jepchumba, who was involved in a road accident on Narok Highway.

“It is a great loss as Melissa had started a promising life after graduating from Maasai Mara University on December 9. I pray that the Grace of God, loving memories, and the comfort of friends will ease their sorrow during this painful time,” said Kibichiy.

How the Narok accident happened

Melissa died in an accident in Tegero area along the Narok-Bomet road.

According to the police, the accident happened around 10 am when a small Toyota car and a bus collided.

It was about a Toyota car that was going to Narok and a bus Easy Coach what was happening on the other side.

According to the police report, the driver of the Toyota lost control of the vehicle, lost its lane and collided with the bus.

Melissa died on the spot, while three other passengers suffered minor injuries.
