During the launch of the National Police and State Department Strategic Plans 2023-2027 on Friday, December 13, Ruto highlighted the importance of the new uniforms.

In his speech, Ruto stressed the need for uniforms that encourage officers and increase their morale.

“As I said before, we will involve police men and women so that we have the right uniforms, I know that has been agreed. And what is waiting now is for us to come forward and make sure that we put our policemen and women in uniform, which gives them the motivation to work and move forward, for so again, that's something we're going to launch,”he said.

The proposed uniforms are among several measures that Ruto has championed to improve the welfare and efficiency of more than 100,000 police officers.

What are Ruto's ambitious plans to improve the police

Apart from unveiling plans for a new uniform, Ruto reiterated his commitment to a robust modernization plan for the police.

The President revealed that KSh 9 billion had already been spent on this program in the past two years, with an additional amount earmarked for further improvements.

“I promised that we will engage in the modernization plan of our police service. Already in the last two years, we have spent KSh 9 billion on the modernization plan. I promised that we will spend KSh. 20 billion, but in fact, we will spend KSh 28 billion to improve our police services .

I am very happy that some of the equipment has already been released, others are on the way and we are starting to feel the impact of the improvement of the police in enhancing security across the country,” Ruto said.

Ruto praised the leadership of the police and officers on the ground, recognizing their role in protecting citizens, property and lives.

He assured Kenyans that the modernization program will be completed within two years, giving officers modern tools to deal with emerging security challenges effectively.

During the 2022 presidential campaign, the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua he said Kenya First will not relent in implementing reforms in the National Police Service.

Speaking in Nyandarua during the county's economic conference organized by the political wing led by Ruto, Rigathi noted that the disciplinary officers were neglected by the administration that followed the late one. Mwai Kibaki.

Apart from the “low” salary, Rigathi claimed that police officers are not happy with their blue uniforms.

He said the officers will return to their original attire if his ticket with Ruto wins on August 9.
