Kenyan Newspapers: 600 Somali Soldiers Flee to Kenya, Surrender Weapons to KDF

On Friday, December 13, Kenyan newspapers reported that Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers fled to Kenya after confronting Jubaland forces.

Newspapers also reported that farmers in the President's farm William Ruto in the Rift Valley region they have refused the planned vaccination of their livestock by the government.

Kenya welcomes 600 soldiers of the Somali National Army who fled their country following clashes with Jubaland soldiers in Ras Kamboni, a town bordering Kenya.

The SNA soldiers crossed the Ishiakani border in Lamu County and surrendered their weapons to the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF).

Internal Security Secretary (PS) Raymond Omollo said SNA soldiers could be sent home today.

“They put the weapons down. Now we are working on how to get them home,” Omollo disclosed.

The Somali soldiers are reported to be under the protection of KDFwith the help of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

A KDF officer involved in their protection said they will ensure that all 600 SNA personnel are returned to their country.

Big farmers in President William Ruto's farm in the Rift Valley region have opposed the government's plan to vaccinate their livestock in January 2025.

The farmers described the exercise as 'dubious and useless', considering it a misplaced priority.

Farmers want the president to direct the money to improve the Community Health Authority (SHA) instead.

“We do not understand where this issue of livestock vaccination comes from, it is clear that this is a plan of some people to enrich themselves and we will not accept it, we are tired of the behavior of this government to force anything. our,” Thomas Bowen, a farmer representative said.

The farmers claimed that they have been vaccinating their livestock when needed.

Kenya's chief executive officers (CEOs) have projected a bleak outlook for business in the New Year 2025.

A survey by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) showed CEOs attributed poor growth to high taxes, reduced consumer spending and high operating costs.

“Respondents reported moderate optimism in Kenya's growth prospects over the next 12 months largely due to lack of consumer demand, high cost of doing business and taxes,” the study said.

Many companies are considering downsizing their workforce in order to stay on, raising fears of job losses.

HIV activists and Kenyan doctors are optimistic about a new drug to fight the virus.

The long-acting injectable drug (CAB-LA) is described as 'magical' as it reduces the viral load to undetectable levels and is used as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), reducing the risk of HIV infection.

Her first two injections are given four weeks apart, followed by injections every eight weeks.

The study showed that CAB-LA reduced the risk of HIV by 79% compared to oral PrEP.

Ruto emphasized that he has been laying the foundation for the rise of the Kenyan economy, saying that he will succeed and prove the critics wrong.

“We encourage everyone, including our critics to engage on the basis of facts and truth,” he said.
