Nairobi – The woman accused of trying to burn Peter Manyuru's church shocked the court by claiming she was sent by the “God of Africa” to deliver a message of “heavenly fire.”
Jane Wanjiru Boro, who pleaded guilty to the charges of the attempt, told Chief Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo that she became confused after entering the Jesus Teaching Ministry Church, which led her to start the fire.
“I had a vision that the church would be burnt down, so I went there with a message. But when I arrived, I was confused and forgot to ask God to bring fire. Instead, I ended up lighting the fire myself. Sir, sometimes people get confused,” he said during the court session.

What happened in the Church of Jesus Teaching Ministry
Court records show that on October 19, 2023, around 3:30 am, Wanjiru entered the church, located on Haile Selassie Road, with a soda bottle filled with kerosene.
The guards stopped him at the reception but he claimed that he was waiting for someone to come and pick him up.
While in the reception area, he spilled kerosene on the floor, lit a match, and tried to start a fire in the church.
However, the quick action of the security guards put out the fire before it spread.
Wanjiru was arrested at the scene and later taken to Kamukunji Police Station.
Jane Wanjiru admits wrongdoing
In court, Wanjiru confessed to the charges and insisted that his actions were inspired by a divine vision.
Judge Onsarigo ordered that he be detained until December 18, 2024, so that a pre-sentence report can be submitted before his sentencing.
