The newspaper reported new information from an unexpected meeting between former president Uhuru Kenyatta and his successor William Ruto on Monday, December 9.
When the leaders, in their statements, explained that their meeting focused on important issues of interest to the nation, The Star noted that more were discussed.
The leaders focused on political talks, with information emerging that Ruto intends to use Uhuru to restore his glory in Mount Kenya.
For that to happen, The Star newspaper reported that Ruto is considering the former president's younger brother, Muhoho Kenyatta, for a Cabinet post.
Later, he could be Ruto's running mate in his bid for re-election in 2027.
Sources close to the Kenyatta family told The Star that the two leaders planned strategies for the next poll.
The discussion, according to the newspaper, was about political changes in Mount Kenya, especially the new influence of the ousted vice president Rigathi Gachagua.
They discussed ways to counter Gachagua's growing influence, including bringing Uhuru's main allies into government.
Apart from Muhoho, others who are expected to become ministers include the former Minister of Health Mutahi Kagweformer Minister of Internal Affairs Kibicho and former governor of Laikipia Ndiritu Muriithi.
2. Nation Today
The newspaper reported on an Africog survey which showed that Kenyans were skeptical about Ruto's administration.
According to the report, many Kenyans believe that Kenya is not moving in the right direction with Ruto as president.
The report, released on Monday, December 9, was titled “Bad Trends: Corruption in Kenya 2022-2024”.
It focused its findings on a seemingly corrupt system of government that benefits the few.
It cited scandals such as the Adani Group deals, the cooking oil scandal, and the importation of rice and fertilizers as some of the scandals that have become the hallmark of the current administration.
The report also excoriated Ruto for eschewing the sustainability agenda and instead promoting self-help politics through handouts and sponsorships.
