- PCEA pastor praises former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for giving alms in secret
- The pastor claimed that President William Ruto is giving large donations to churches to get favors, despite his allegedly harsh remarks
- According to the servant of God, the church cannot accept a donation of KSh 5 million from the president while many of its believers suffer in poverty
The ongoing tension between the church and the government regarding the giving of donations is increasing, despite the President's statement William Ruto that there is no competition between the two parties.
In a recent sermon, a pastor from the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) insisted that offerings should be made in secret, commending the former vice president Rigathi Gachagua for allegedly doing so calmly without seeking praise.
The preacher claimed that Gachagua's donations, regardless of the amount, were given for the glory of God.
“Gachagua gave his offering, and we don't even know if it was KSh 1 or KSh 100,000, because he was giving to God,” he said.
Why did the preacher of PCEA criticize William Ruto?
However, the pastor strongly criticized President William Ruto, accusing him of hypocrisy.
He claimed that the president was a critic of the church in the beginning, then later started giving donations to find favors.
The preacher pointed out that the church cannot accept Ruto's donations, citing the difference between the financial donations of politicians and the poverty of many church members.
“When someone comes with KSh 5 million when there are 700 people in the church who are starving, what is the benefit? Isn't it better if we live without it? It would be better if they brought corn flour, at least we could eat. Then you come and throw KSh 5 million after insulting us. You can't insult us and then come with KSh 5 million and tell us to take it. We are children?” he questioned.
The PEFA Church insists on receiving donations from politicians
In other news, a PEFA preacher announced that his sect will continue to receive political donations despite the decision of other churches to reject them.
The preacher said they have no way to determine the source of donations made by politicians.
They also objected to the tendency of politicians to make their donations public.
